This is Egypt too!

The so-called Eastern Desert with Gebel Elba Nationalpark and Wadi Gemal Nationalpark invites you to hike, experience nature, have contact with the locals and dream under the stars.

But also beach, sea and unique sunset scenery are part of the program.

All nature lovers and hikers are in the right place here!

Day 1: Airport - Hotel.

Day 2: Hotel - Shalateen - Wadi Gaheleya "Obelix Hausen"(home)
Today we start exploring the surroundings. First by visiting Shalateen. Shalateen is about 2 h drive from the hotel. It's a little off the usual
tourist radar. Essentially it's a trading town on the border with Sudan. The main draw is the camel market. Thousands of camels are on display here. The camels are brought up from Sudan and are bidded for by the Egyptains. Camels are either bought for work or for meat. Once sold, they are taken for branding and then onto a transportation area. The town has a vibrant souk and has an array of shops for spices and perfumes. On the way back we make a detour into the varied nature of the area. Rock formations reminiscent of the menhirs from famous “old roman comic heroes Asterix and Obelix” stimulate the imagination and invite you to take a short walk. Overnight camping. (B/L/D)

Day 3: (Gebel Elba N.P.), Wadi Gaheleya - Wadi Hodein
Our outdoor adventure takes us today to Wadi Hodein in the northern part of the Gebel Elba National Park. Greenery and desert sand alternate and always offer the eye new impressions. We will see our first rock engravings.
Overnight camping. (B/L/D)

Day 4: Wadi Hodein - Wadi Dif
Around Ain el Dif we will find plenty of rock engravings and we could explore even more, the entire mountain is full of them. The longer we move in nature, the more we perceive.
Overnight camping. (B/L/D)

Day 5: Wadi Dif - Wadi Abu Saafa
A night under the stars, a breakfast with Bedouin coffee (Gabbana) – the day starts well. At Abu Saafa, we will visit the ancient water well coming out from the mountain. Nearby further engravings.
Overnight camping. (B/L/D)

Day 6: Wadi Abu Saafa - Abraq - Wadi Naam
In Abraq we will find rock carvings that are worth their money. On top of a small hill there is an apparent fortress in ruins. Only the outline of the walls are still visible. Its origin is unknown. After Abraq and its lake we will head to Wadi Naam with further engravings. Wadi Naam is characteristic for thousands of handals, quilliquins, or sometimes also known as desert rattles.
Overnight camping. (B/L/D)

Day 7: Wadi Naam - Sheikh Shazly - Wadi Gemal N.P.
Today we are heading forward to Wadi Gemal Nationalpark.
The region is known for its prehistoric rock art and ruins from the Roman Empire. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of Egypt's most interesting sightseeing destinations. Not only does it boast a diverse ecosystem, but it also has unusual archaeological sites. On our way we pass by the tomb and mosque of Sheikh Shazly Abu Al Hassan El-Shazly or Sheikh Shazly as called now or the original name Humaithara (Arabic: حميثرة Ḥumaythirah, also spelled "Humaisara," "Al Maithara") or Sheikh Shazily (Arabic: الشيخالشاذلى) (as it is called in Egypt now) is an isolated town in the Egyptian desert located in the Red Sea Governorate in Egypt. The town is surrounded by hills. The Holy Shrine of Imām Nūr al-Dīn Abū al-Ḥasan ʻAlī al-Shādhilī is located here.
Overnight camping. (B/L/D)

Day 8: Appollonia – Negros
We have long since adopted the rhythm of outdoor life. Every new day brings new impressions without hectic and stress. The Wadi Gemal Natural Park is crossed by an ancient roman trading route from the old Roman port Berenike at the Red Sea across the desert towards the Nile Valley. Along that route the roman had created several trading branching routes for their mine products to be transported away and for the workers they had created small settlements. We will pass by two of them today, Appollonia and Negros. Overnight Camping. (B/L/D)

Day 9: Wadi Negros - Seket - Emerald mines - Wadi Gemal
The Eastern Desert served as an important mineral resource for the ancient Egyptians. Limestone, sandstone, granite, amethyst, copper and gold were among the stones and metals mined from the desert, and the remnants of thousands of quarries, camps and roads
are scattered through the region's mountains and wadis
The area of Wadi el Gemal, whose name means « Valley of camels », was declared National Park in 2003, in order to preserve an extraordinary terrestrial and marine ecosystem, which is incredibly rich from a landscape, botanical, and wildlife viewpoint, and includes numerous archeological sites of great importance. Among these mountains, the famous emerald mines of the Pharaohs are hidden: the oldest in the world, and the only ones known before the New World was discovered.
Seket itself had for sure a very important role in the area, as there were at least three roman temples built here.
Overnight camping. (B/L/D)

Day 10: Wadi Gemal - Wadi Satout
We will leave the main Wadi el Gemal to visit Wadi Satout. On the way we will stop for some rock engravings. When reaching Wadi Satout it is now for hiking and climbing to a desert lake that is fed by a waterfall, when it rains in the area.
Overnight Camping in Wadi Satout. (B/L/D)

Day 11: Wadi Satout - Gebel el Atshan
From Wadi Satout we will head eastwards till we reach the Gebel el Atshan - the thirsty one - This was a Talh powder mine, that was given up in the 1980s. It still gives us a very good impression how quarries and mining in these areas used to work. We will stroll all over the place to get a very good impression.
Overnight Camping outside of the quarry. (B/L/D)

Day 12: Gebel el Atshan - Wadi Lahmy Azur Resort
After spending many nights under the stars, we made a full circle and arrive once again at the Wadi Lahmy Azur Resort. It feels like we’re coming home and now we have time to review our last impressions in peace and relaxation if wished.
Overnight Wadi Lahmy Azur Resort Hotel or similar. (B/L/D)

Day 13 & 14: Wadi Lahmy Azur Resort - Days at leisure
Either you simply enjoy good food, sea, pool and gabbana – or you have the opportunity to make various excursions, like - Ras Bernice
– looking for gazelles. - Hankorab Beach – one of the most beautiful beaches worldwide. The water is turquoise blue, pleasantly warm, and crystal clear. - Quulan Bay – enjoy an amazing sunset! - Quad driving for sunset to go to “Fata Morgana” – let’s combine fun with miracle! Or go for a long stroll along the beach along the sea.  You can do this for many kilometers, as there is not one hotel complex after the next like in many places in Egypt.
The coast of Wadi el Gemal is partially rocky with broad spots covered by mangroves which are particularly widespread in the south where there is the largest mangrove forest of the entire Red Sea. There are also various sandy beaches suitable for snorkeling and scuba diving along the shores of Wadi El Gemal Park. The inland area is home to many animals, including the Dorcas gazelle and the Nubian Ibex.
